I am so glad to hear that Max is doing so well and you have learned (and passed on for others) a valuable lesson. Although Percocet and Tramodol (Ultram) are both used to control pain -- they are different meds and may have different contraindications. I've had both and they do react differently for me. For instance, Percocet, specifically, says to tell your doctor if you have ever had a stomach, intestinal, or pancreas disorder; so it seems like it would not be rx'd for pancreatitis patients. But...I have chronic pancreatitis and was recently prescribed it for after my elbow surgery. So who knows? There are other considerations too -- they come in different strengths and both come in regular and extended-release formulas. The extended-release formulas should never be split, chewed, crushed, etc... as doing so can result in overdose and even death.

As a rule, I would just never give a narcotic of any kind to your pet without it being specifically prescribed in the appropriate brand, strength and option for your tiny pup! That is probably already your game plan but just in case others are reading this months down the road, I thought I'd emphasize it. Again.... I'm just glad to hear Max is doing well! Pancreatitis is no fun and extremely painful!
