Also being that his last urinalysis in Jan. he had Urate crystals, so we were all pretty much thinking the stones were going to be urate, and that he would probably produce more.

I had a hard time with the decision when it came time to agree. I was actually on my cell phone with my general Vet while I was consulting in the room with the surgeon. They both felt it was best for the urethrostomy, as did my husband. The more I thought about it and talked with others that have dogs like this, I feel it was best. It was extremely difficult to see TJ suffering like that and it being at a critical point, I feared for his future and didn't want him to have to go through another bladder surgery. I also know that the urethrostomy is major deal and a major life change for both he and I, but we'll manage

After surgery was complete and the stones came back has CalOx - the surgeon still feels it was the best route.

...just need him to continue to heal, and hope his new diet plan will work to his benefit
that's what I thought. Since its such an extreme solution for a first timer I knew there had to be something else going on with TJ for you to agree to that kind of procedure. Your so good with your pups. TJ and Roxy are lucky to have a mom like you.

How's he doing? Is he still peeing blood or dripping blood after he urinates? I assume he's still trying to pee 50 times a day too, heh, that will stop soon once he figures out his new plumbing. The dogs i know who had that surgery all did very well during the adjustment period. Some had to stay in hospital for a week but most were out in two days. Its easier when they are little guys.

Good luck to you guys and keep us posted on his progress!
