Actually here is the exact wording: "Color of hair on body and richness of tan on head and legs are of prime importance in adult dogs, to which the following color requirements apply: BLUE: Is a dark steel blue, not a silver blue and not mingled with fawn, bronzy or black hairs. TAN: All tan hair is darker at the roots than in the middle, shading to still lighter tan at the tips. There should be no sooty or black hair intermingled with any of the tan. "
But this is just a GOAL for dogs that are being shown and bred. If a person wants to breed their dog, they should ensure they are within the breed standard or the deviation is so slight that it can be compensated easily with the mate.
It definately does not mean one dog is going to be any better of a pet just because of color. The absolutely sweetest yorkie I have ever seen was my first one -- a curly haired little moppet that had about 5 deviations from standard. But she had a heart as big as all outdoors and never met a person she didn't love. When looking for a pet -- a person should never overlook the yorkies who might not be perfect in standard as they may be the one that is PERFECT for their family's love! |
Wow that's really specific and quite interesting. I've never been to a dog show, I've seen them on TV but am always too enamored with the magnificence of all the dogs to pay attention to what the people are saying. Even when I was young I remember Yorkies being one of my favorites cause they were so elegant. Roxy isn't very elegant lol, she loves dress up and bows as much as she likes chasing dogs and rolling in grass. lol
