Be thankful that they are gaining, they are healthy.....
Double their weight is as it should be....It appears people are concerned with keeping the pups small.....I've even known vet's to tell owner's that their pups were too fat at 5 months of age......geez! this sends owner's into a frenzy and putting the pups on diet. The most horrible thing you could think of doing...pups need to eat as much as they can....they will loose body fat as they become active. As infants most of their weight gain is milk fat. |
Thanks for the feedback. I was just a little worried that the above average weight gain was a problem. From what I've read, try should have double the birth weight from days 7 to 10. Which they did on day 5. I know that's it good for them to be gaining but I wasn't sure if they were gaining too much.
Their weight gain is already beginning to slow down a bit. They gained between .5 and .8 oz from Wednesday to Thursday. They had been gaining 1 to 2 oz daily for a few days. Thanks for easing my mind. I'm new to this, and even though I've done all my research and was prepared for this, there's always these little questions that I have.
