Spaying and neutering are the responsible thing for pet owners to do. I've done that all of my life. It not only prevents accidental breeding, but also prevents male dogs roaming. It will also keep other male dogs from going after a female in heat. There are also health benefits. It prevents cancer in later life, as well as other medical problems. So, I can see only benefits to spaying and neutering. In all of my life, I've never had a pet that we didn't spay or neuter - from the time I was a child.
