Yes, it is better to have pets spayed or neutered. You won't have to worry about having or creating unwanted litters, and you can avoid many health issues that can arise from not having it done.
It can make them better pets too, because they won't run off looking for boyfriends or girlfriends whenever the mood strikes them.
My only concern is to not get it done too early, as that can cause a different set of problems...
