Groomers in my area tend to do the same thing. They have all the dogs dropped off in the morning then the groomer and/or her assistant bathe all the dogs and put them in cages to be cage dried by blowers. After the dogs are dried they start the actual grooming (clipping, trimming, toenails etc). This is a way to groom more dogs in a day (assembly line style) rather than doing one start to finish at a time.
That is why I learned to groom my dogs at home. I hated to leave one all day at the groomers.
