Peeing in crate, help! Hello!
I have an almost 6 month old female Yorkie, Sophie. For the first few months she was sleeping in her x-pen with her bed and a pad at night. 98% of the time she would never use her pad overnight and when she did it was usually first thing in the morning when she heard us get up before we got to her.
We had to go out of town this past weekend so we bought a small wire crate for her and a little bed for inside. She seemed to do well in there, went in there without fussing, and slept through the night. Since she was doing so well we figured we would do this at home. For the first couple of nights things seemed to be going well.
But, today I saw her sniffing in there and I pulled out the bed and it was full of pee. I don't know if she only did it last night, or if it's been accumulating for the past few nights. She's gotten a lot better during the day only having to go out several times versus every hour and even goes to the door to wait. So, I feel like she's getting the hang of housebreaking, but nighttime still may be difficult.
So, should we return to the pen with bed and pad or continue using the crate. I feel like with the pad she doesn't learn to "hold it" through the night, but I'm not sure if she's stilll too young or not (We typically take her out for the last time around 10 or 10:30 and then she gets up around 6 or 7 to go out). I want to ween her off the pad at night because we are going out of town in May and my MIL is watching her and I don't want to have to bring the entire setup with us every time we travel.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!! |
