Thanks for the kind words. I'm no expert, but I learned a trick for snow pics that might help. Shoot on manual and take your light reading off the snow -- not your subject. But instead of lining up the meter in the middle for neutral lighting, make the exposure +2. That ensures that the snow will appear white with detail. If you try to shoot on manual, your light meter is going to try to turn the snow gray and your subject black. It's based on Ansel Adams' zone system, and I shoot all my snow pics that way.
