The potty pads were on soft bedding in her whelping box. Laid a potty pad beside the box to set the placenta's on, etc. No muss, no fuss.
I do too I layer mine and just pull it out and then there is a clean one right underneith. I use washclothes dedicated just for whelping to wipe and clean the puppies off. The pads wash up great!
