Unfortunately, I've had some pictures stolen off my blog. I've had to go back and put a great big watermark over all of them just to discourage it from happening again. |
It is my understanding that you do not have to have the symbol. I am working on masters for educ tech and copyright is one thing we have to discuss. Here is the main U.S. Copyright Office write up.
U.S. Copyright Office
Here is a few pieces from the site:
Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work.
Copyright protects “original works of authorship” that are
fixed in a tangible form of expression. The fixation need not
be directly perceptible so long as it may be communicated
with the aid of a machine or device. Copyrightable works
include the following categories:
1 literary works
2 musical works, including any accompanying words
3 dramatic works, including any accompanying music
4 pantomimes and choreographic works
5 pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works
6 motion pictures and other audiovisual works
7 sound recordings
8 architectural works
