Well, most places require rabies vaccines by LAW. Most states are every 3 years for rabies, but look into your city/state for their laws regarding rabies. Jackson had a reaction to the lepto vaccine but has no issues with rabies, and it sucks but it's something that legally has to be done, and I wouldn't want to not comply. We do give benadryl beforehand just in case.
Currently, most vets are following the new protocol and that is DHPP as puppies (so approx. 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 15 weeks, I think), then the one year booster of that, and then DHPP every 3 years. But those are not required by law. I do get Jackson his bordatella vaccine just because we've been thru kennel cough with him twice now (both times when he was not UTD on it) and we're around other dogs a lot and he goes to the groomers. I found a mobile groomer who did not need any of his shot records though and I love her!
