Lucy has a hard time keeping up with my bigger Westie; he can walk 3-4 miles and still want more. That's a little far for her; I can see her start panting or trying to turn around and head back for home or for the car.
I hate to leave her home so she goes along and I carry her part of the way. I can tell she's tired when she allows me to carry her for a while. Then she gets restless and wants down and walks some more! If I see her getting tired again; I just pick her back up and give her a ride for a little while.
She's only 5 lbs so it's easy to carry her when she's tired.
