Sounds like the vet likes to do a auto-de-worming...IMHO.
I don't believe in it, but that's personal, I don't believe in the over use of antibiotics either...personally I used Panacur. (supposedly safer I was told-so ask your vet about it)..when I had to de-worm a dog who came with worms.
One of my dogs came with Albanon (an antibiotic for cocidia) the vet said DO NOT GIVE IT AUTO LET'S TEst for it then treat not blindly treat...
My vet doesn't like auto-de-worming or over-usage of drugs either...it may be a matter of perspectives on splitting hairs in procedure and protocols of "safety"
1. Ask why and see if it's because of an auto method or something else-just be sure you discuss it, understand it and then make an educated choice in what's best and safest for your pup.
2. Pleas be sure to ask about starting a heart worm med that treats to prevent all 4 types of common worms, like Interceptor or Iverheart Plus.
Then you don't have to de-worm once a year-which is subjective as many vets say do the fecal if it's negative don't over treat other vets say auto-de-worm...
3. Do the fecal at least yearly-it can show a lot...more than worms and is important.

Hercules didn't come with worms and I even had the paperwork from the breeders vet showing what tests she did and the results. When I called to make the appt the vet tech told me that when he comes for his 16 week shots that they will do his yearly exam. I told her that he had that on 2/18 and told her about the tests. She told me that they wouldn't have to do anything but his shots. When we saw the vet, he said that they will have to do the tests and he had the papers I brought in his hand looking at them when he said it. I just hope they aren't trying to do tests that aren't needed for the money.
