At least do get x-rays.

My pup came in carrying one of his rear legs up and didn't use it at all for two or three days - at which time we went to the vet.

He had ruptured his cruciate ligament (knee area) and had surgery. Little bugger went out and ruptured the other cruciate ligament a few months later - this time we healed without surgery.

So - regardless of what he has - if he continues to limp or carry and not use his leg, the first diagnostic procedure you need to get done is an x-ray.

My dog had to be anesthesized for the x-ray (this is routine and necessary) because of the position he had to be put in and his having to be kept absolutely still for the x-ray.

Good luck - wouldn't it be wonderful if he decides to start using his leg on his own - and gets better on his own........
