I was 5 years old when I got my first Yorkie. His name was Gizmo and he was the sweetest thing you could ask for. He was friendly, caring, he would run to me the instant I got home from kindergarten and would follow me everywhere. I was his human and as far as my parents could see it, his older sister. When he was 7 months, I came from home school and called for him. He didn't come. I tried again and again. I found my mom on the couch and she told me that they had to put him down. We had gotten him from a puppy mill without knowing. He had an enlarged esophagus and couldn't eat anymore.

A year later we got two new yorkies. A girl (Brittany) and a little boy (AJ). Brittany was very much my mothers dog. She was rambunctious and a real handfull when my mom wasn't home. But once again, the little boy loved me. AJ was a teacup, he was from a showline (we had his papers) and was calm, well behaved and perfect. He had little quirks. He liked licking up peoples noses, when my father or I would groan (in embarrassment or frustration) he would cover his nose with his paws to show his own displeasure. When they were 6, Brittany became aggressive. She was nipping at AJ and my dad's new dog, Chou-Chou, a poodle. We gave her to an older lady who had no other dogs and loved her.

I moved out of my parents house at sixteen. AJ stayed with my parents because I couldn't handle him where I was living. Every time I called my parents, they put me on speaker so AJ could hear me. Any time I visited my parents, he came straight to me and slept with me.

I am twenty now, almost twenty-one. Six months ago my parents called me. My dad told me that AJ was dying, he was thirteen and his heart was starting to fail. I drove from Portland, back home to Astoria not but minutes after getting off the phone with my parents. I stayed there with AJ and took him to the vet in the morning to have him put down. I stayed with him and held him till he was gone.

It's been six months now and I still miss him. I see everyone on here with their new yorkie puppies and I ma happy for them. My roommate got me a new dog. Half Kelpie and half Hanging Tree Dog. He's from a puppy mill. I already know how this will end.

I am new on this site, and I hope I will have a new yorkie some time in the next year.
