I can understand how you feel! I love the look of the BB and have one for my yorkie...but it doesn't seem to matter which size I try, I can't get my schnauzer into one in a comfortable manner. (She is also somewhere btw the 5 & 6). I once talked to a BB rep and they suggested they would be coming out with some new "styles"...in that the space between the two leg holes could be made narrower, that seems to be the issue with Georgie. Her chest is too narrow for the 6 to fit correctly, but the 5 isn't long enough to go up and around her shoulders properly. (Hope I'm explaining it clearly) What it comes down to really is body shape...and right now the BB doesn't work for my schnauzer's body.
