This drug has antibiotic in it. So if there was/is a bacterial infection present, stopping it could cause resistence to it. The ingredients in this drug appear to be the same (with the same side effect) as Otomax (an extremely popular drug for these issues). I think it's the gentamicin.
The vet can take a look and maybe give you something else (like Zymox), but may recommend that you continue the current drug.
Also, it sounds like the groomer told you that your pup had mites and then told you what to use. This is borderline illegal. It's practicing veterinary medicine w/o a license and is pretty dangerous. Anytime there is ear discharge that needs to be treated, a vet should look with the otoscope to make sure the eardrum is healthy (medicating with an eardrum issue would be a major issue).
