They're talking about being in a serious relationship and having him come into her daughter's life. She wanted to make sure he was really ready to be in it and wasn't just going to throw in the towel when he realized parenting is hard. He should have been able to reassure her instead of getting upset. I felt so bad for her when he was acting that way because she felt like she did something wrong.
