Default Summit Urban Animal strategies Your thoughts are appreciated.

First you can go to their website; just google name and it will come up. I'm often useless in posting links.

There are going to be four summit meetings across Canada and the topic is Voluntary Compliance and Best Practices for Breeders.

They are parterning with PIJAC, Ontario SPCA, Petsmart Charities and PetSecure. The facilitator is Joe Mauro CEO of CKC. That is the Canadian Kennel Club.

Background: The advent of the internet has allowed non-compliant sources of cats and dogs to escape detection and bring thousands of pets into our coummunities with homing episodes that are below acceptable standards.

The companion animal industry has recognized this problem and has come together to develop a solution that will reduce or eliminate two sources of pets; unintentional and intentional non-compliant breeders: while providing official recognition for compliant sources. A new national seal of approval will help service providers like Kijiiji, pet stores and breeders to help pet families acquire a pet from a compliant source with confidence.

I'm posting this information, as I know Canadian breeders are members here, and I feel like I have so many questions with respect to a) this alliance, b) the "agenda" the stated one, and potentially hidden agendas, c) missing partners?

This narrative speaks about compliance and non compliance, to who and to what?
What the heck is a "homing episode"?
What is the CKC doing/being involved in this conference?
Why is the Dept of Agriculture which is the overseeing body, under which the CKC is incorporated under not involved?

Self Reflective questions: Do I really want a profit based, organization to come up with whatever guidelines for breeding and to "grab" for themselves the authority to do so?
If these guidelines are less than what the CKC expects breeder members to adhere to, what then? If they are more, what then?
As a CKC registered kennel, will I be expected to answer to two "masters", if so why so, and under whose authority?

I plan on attending, and it is obvious that I need to do more research, but I'd like to go informed, and to make a meaningfull contribution to the discussion.

Your thoughts are welcomed. And just so you know, I will be contacting the President(s) of my breed clubs to discuss this as well.

On a non factual note, my stomach started to "roil" when I read this, I'm not sure why, but instinctual reactions I;ve learnt not to discount.
