oh I love to sew. I used to sew for my daughters, but they won't wear what I make so now I have Remy
I have a couple of basic patterns -- I looked for a vest pattern and added a ruffle or skirt.
I have a viking embroidery machine. It is old now, but when I first bought I could have paid for a year of college for one of my girls... please don't tell dh
I also have an Elna.. basic good sewing machine. You want one that has the basic features, straight stitch, ziz zag, button hole et. of course some do everything but change your bed sheets.. but be honest will you use all that?
A surger is the overlock machine and is great if you will be sewing knits and such.
So.. viking, Elena, brother are all good brands. If you are not experience in sewing try to find a local shop that gives lessons with the machine.
