Puppies get zoomies a lot. They zoom around the room and may bark and appear to act aggressive. More often than not, the behavior is actually playful. Stay calm and don't show any excitement or frustration. Any negative energy will just fuel his excitement and get him going more. When Max would do this, I would very lightheartedly say, "Oh, my feisty boy." Being gentle and nonchalant is completely disarming.
I would recommend not holding him down. You can calm him down faster and in a much less stressful way by sitting motionless on the floor. Don't move a muscle until he calms and comes to you. When he does, gently say, "good boy" and give him a small treat. I promise this exercise will train him to calm down and come to you. You can then introduce command phrases and words, "settle down" or "come" and "sit."
You can also ignore him when he is acting out. Withdrawing attention is very effective. |
Patience is very important with puppies.
Its okay to give short time outs if their behavior warrants it- however, they do need plenty of opportunity to be "crazy" and get all their energy out- if they are cooped up too much it will only make it worse.
You can't expect an 11 week old to be potty trained- everything that is in there pen with them should be 100% washable- plastic or metal crates, blankets, etc.
