We finally got our puppy to be comfortable with his crate at night, but he still HATES his Ex-pen, and although he will go in willingly to eat or play for a few minutes, the minute we close the gate he starts whining, and barking. His bark is so high pitched and loud, and it breaks my heart to hear him so upset. We really want to get him to love his Ex-pen so that he can stay at home when we go out for errands, work, or on a date night. As of now my fiance or I have to constantly be home, or we take him to doggy daycare. We have tried ignoring his barking, shaking a can with coins to get the barking to stop, played with him in his crate to show him it is fun, let for short amounts of time and came back and praised if he was quiet, and even given him treats for staying quiet. We live in an apartment with pretty thin walls and I worry that our neighbors are going to start complaining if we just ignore his barking and let him get used to the pen. I feel like he could bark for hours if we let him. HELP!!! I need some tricks that work!! I just ordered a puppy pet that has a heartbeat and warmer which I hope will help, and also some more kong toys to keep him entertained. FYI our puppy is 16 weeks old and we have had him for almost 2 weeks now!
