Sadie is now 50/51 days along, going by your posts. I'm at a loss why your vet said she is in the first stage of labor. Not sure what he calls labor but I've never seen where it could last that long. First stage labor usually lasts up to 24 hours. I've never seen it said anywhere that it can last a week. She shouldn't be showing any labor-like symptoms yet, and if so, you'd have to question whether or not it's a symptom of some other problem.
I know you said earlier that you are comfortable with this vet, but he's done some questionable things IMO. First, he does an x-ray way too early (the one about 2 weeks ago) to tell anything. He also recommended calcium supplements...something universally not recommended during pregnancy. Now he says she's in labor at 51 days?
Frankly, I would be more worried for her getting enough nutrition and possibly becoming anemic, hypoglycemic or pre-eclampsic. Did he do any blood work on her? Being picky is one thing but at a certain point you have to concerned for her health (and that of her pups) if she's not getting enough nutrients. Did he suggest giving her some Nutri-Cal? | Just to clear things up for you, I took the advice of other YT members and I got a new vet. The one who did the x-ray to early is no longer in the picture. I am not sure what she meant by the first stages of labor. I will call her Monday and see exactly what she is talking about and I will let you know. She will eat for me but she really is being picky. The new vet gave me a can of bland wet food and Sadie ate it twice and now she wants nothing to do with it. She will eat scrambled eggs, boiled chicken sometimes and I had to stop with the liver because it gave her the runs. I have heard about the Nutri-Cal from YT but the vet did not mention it. I did ask the vet if she thought Sadie's weight was ok and she said yes. Can I buy the Nutri-Cal at the pet store? I will also ask the vet about blood work. Sadie did a have a spell where she yelped three times like she was in pain and then was real restless but she has not done it since. The vet said there are no infections , I guess when I told her that she was concerned that maybe Sadie had an infection.Thank you for all your help and I will keep you updated. |
