Im sorry to hear the poor cat died, but it is not your yorkies fault.. he is a dog and is only doing what is natural to him. If he was in his own fenced back yard then it really isnt your fault, just a sad situation.
Apologise to the owners and let them know how sorry you are that this happend, make sure they know that it happend in your back yard and no where else.
Maybe next time they wont let their cat out to wonder, although I know it is hard to keep cats indoors, nobody is at fault here it is just a very unfortunate and sad event.
