Default Heart worms

I don't know if you guys remember me, but I posted here when my 16 year old yorkie died. I adopted a Scotty/Cairn mix in July who tested HW- before we adopted him. He had his annual checkup/shots in January and he tested positive. He was on preventative, but he lived in the wild before the rescue got him and from what I have read it takes 6 months to show up in the tests at the vet.

He had his first treatment on Monday and he is sore and tired. The injection site feels like a muscle cramp. He is a tough little guy and I know he will tough it out, but I want to get some feedback from any of you guys if you have gone through this before. I know he is not a yorkshire, but he is a terrier, and my past dealings with you guys have been great. I know many of you deal with other types of dogs.

Thanks for any input.
