If I were you I'd do just a little more research on Comfortis before using it. Since your vet recommended it, ask him if he is SURE it is safe for under 5# dogs. Once you are assured, it may be worth a try. You can even take the smallest dose and trim off part of the pill to make a smaller dose. I am so glad to be free of fleas and free of topical treatments that don't work and are messy & transfer to me, bedding etc.
JesBred is right about extra cleaning to break the flea cycle too.
