I found settling into a routine helps. They get a walk every morning, same time every day. There's designated time in the evening when we either walk or play. They do have to have an outlet for their energy beyond chew toys. It may not be ONE thing that works for you, but a combination of all of them.

Once my gang learned when play time is, I found they mellowed out at other times.

Also, when returning to the house after being away, don't go crazy at first. Make it seem like it's no big deal that you come and go.
