Aaaah! If he's only 3 1/2 months old he didn't have that much to start with! What look were you going for? Sorry, but it is kinda funny. I have done this to my son, actually, and the DH was NOT pleased. Just wanted to trim him up a bit when he was about 4. Got out the DH's shaver and put a guide on, size 7. Well, it didn't take much off so I grabbed the 6 and that didn't take much off, so I grabbed the 2 since my son was getting wiggly and sick of me. Oops! Big difference between a 6 and a 2! Needless to say, he looked like he just joined the army. But! It did grow back . . . eventually.
