There are two ways you may pursue this "identification"...

One is establish a "Paper Trail" of the animal's Ancestry
through the Pet Store/Breeder who furnished the animal.
However, with a current copy of "Photoshop" on one's
computer, one could prove that it came directly from
the Duke and Dutches of Yorkshire, if they wanted to.

The other is DNA Testing.
Many "have herd" that this is not a reliable way to establish
Ancestry. That's true, it establishes a "Blood Line", which
can be quite different from Ancestry, though they should
complement each other ! IF everything is on the up and up.

There are AKC approved DNA Test available, and...

Metaphorically speaking:
Lineage tells you of the Trunk and its Branches,
DNA tells you that the Leaves are all the same color.
