UPDATE: Tank had the mpl surgery Feb. 16 Tank is healing from MPL surgery on his rear knee. He was stage 4 and the surgeon told us this can cause arthritis and another problem that I don't remember now. He came through like a champ although 10 days later started limping again and x-rays showed both pins holding the tendon to the tibia (the surgeon moved the tibial crest) had broken!
He reinsterted two new pins and removed the old ones and found that nothing had been moved so the healing was well under way. Whew! After the first surgery they did not bandage the leg but after the second pin insertion they did wrap his leg to help stabilize it.
It's stressful keeping him in an x-pen and we take him out as much as possible to hold him in our laps, interact with him and take him out to pee on the short leash to put weight on that leg. He's really been a sweetheart. Doesn't cry (much) to get out of the pen and never tries to jump on a chair or sofa. We keep him on short leash when he's out of the pen, even if it's just in the house to walk him to the kitchen or something.
Regarding my PetPlan claim. There were a few problems getting the vet records to them. After one vet faxed the records twice, Petplan said they only received the cover sheet. Finally got that squared away on Thursday and now it's a matter of my checking the status online over the next few days to see what the disposition is. The surgery was $1600 and I have a $200 deductible and 20 percent copay so we'll see........
Tanks other knee will need surgery as well as he is bowlegged in both. I'm not looking forward to it. I wish I could wait a year or so because I am afraid he is going to develop different habits after being restricted so much. I just don't know but for now It will be wonderful to see him running around again soon. Staples come out on Friday and I can start taking him for short, short walks the first of April. |
