I read often - a lot of people justifying getting very young puppies (less than a pound - 1 or 2 pounds, etc.) because they had one and everything worked out okay.

This is not a good reason to encourage other people to do the same, or even suggest that with proper care, etc, everything will be fine.. You should still advise people to follow good guidelines -- 8 weeks is the very youngest - 10 to 12 weeks is much better. A little puppy deserves to be with its mother and litter mates until it is weaned, eating well, and gaining weight on his own. This is a joyful warm time and an important time for a puppies development.
