This is what we do with Suki's cat food upstairs. It is up on a counter. Suki can get up there no problem, but Rylie (my pup) cannot.
We have found Rylie does not like to go in the basement. Therefore, we have food for Suki down there as well, along with the litter box (I hear dogs like to get into those too
).
