Normal is around 100.5 - 102.5. Higher or lower could indicate a problem (slight deviations can be okay).
Best to take it rectally. Any thermometer with KY Jelly. Insert about an inch and follow the timing directions for the particular thermometer.
Vet is needed if it's too far out of normal range. I find that the at home thermometers don't work for Ellie, so I've given up on temp. taking for now.
