I know some people use like a hemostatic forceps, but my girls don't like this way.
My vet tought me to use only my fingers, few hair at a time, with a small movement not too strong but decided. During this process I reassure my girls with words and after I plucked hair give them a small treat; if Hope has many hair into ears it is not necessary to remove all in the same time, few one day, few another day and so on.
I think that Hope is scared, try to reassure her as much as possible, you must have a lot of patience.
