My 3 year old, Denzil, had surgery for bi-lateral PL at nine months old. He stayed in vetinary hospital for a week and looked a pitiful sight. He would try and climb into our arms when we visited and cried when we left, which was awful. But, when we picked him up the following week he was like a different dog, and actually ran down the garden when he got home.
