We are going to keep a close eye on her over the holidays, then go in Tuesday for another test and she is scheduled for her csection on Thursday the 29th which will put her at 59 days Might go ahead and do it on Tuesday if the levels are down enough, but the longer we wait, the better!!!Thanks for all the prayers, I know that has played a huge part in her staying pregnant and please continue to pray for her as she goes into this last week. |
Did your vet explain the risks of doing a c-section at 57 days? It is considered a premature delivery, which means pups born before day 58, have a low survival rate, as the lungs are not developed. The longer the wait, the better the survival rate. Many members have suggested taking her in daily for testing, very good advice. Plan the c-section when the levels have dropped. Progesterone levels slowly decrease during the last third of pregnancy to a plateau of 4-16 ng/ml which is maintained for 1-2 weeks. A further abrupt drop occurs 12-24 hours prior to whelping, usually to a value of less than 2 ng/ml. If daily progesterone testing is begun 2-3 days prior to the estimated whelping date, this abrupt drop can help pinpoint the onset of labour.
God Bless
