Are you planning to move, or re-home him?
In terms of goals, I don't know that it has to be one or the other. Even if you don't have time to focus 100% on weight loss, you can make some incremental changes and build better habits over time. Even just tracking what you eat currently would only take you a few minutes per day, and give you a good information about how many calories you maintain on, etc.
