It's pretty common to have either diarrhea or constipation after a spay. The intestines get a little touchy after being manipulated during a procedure. Since you've already been to the vet, just keep following what they told you. It can sometimes take a couple of doses of Metronidazol before you see an effect.

The best thing to do in conjunction with the medication is to feed small, frequent meals so that the intestines aren't overwhelmed and start "dumping" their contents. Some people have had success with canned plain pumpkin (not the pie filling type). You can find that in the baking aisle at most grocery stores. A couple of teaspoons helps build up some bulk.
