Sorry to hear about your baby. I can't help you with the LP, but x pens are great for surgery recovery patients. Although, my Mylee would not tolerate being confined at all and I was worried that the stress from confinement would hurt her more after her hip surgery. She would pace, climb, dig etc., so we took the folding portions from the x-pen and blocked off our furniture, and our bed, and blocked the stairs with a baby gate. Basically anything she would have tried to jump up on or was off limits we blocked off. My house is not that big, so this didn't leave much room for too much exercise, and she slept on her bed on the floor. She was just more content and calm with us or with Moka (our other dog), then we took her out on a leash so she couldn't run. 6 weeks is not that long actually, we were in it for 16 weeks. Take a deep breath, process your situation and you will come up with a creative way to make everyone happy. Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
