My yorkie, Butterbean, is about 13 weeks old and in absolutely LOVES to eat people food. I know I shouldn't let her have it, but she's just so adorable!
I never let her have a lot though, no more that the amount of food she'd get from one of her puppy treats.
I've had her for a little over a month and there's nothing different about what I've been doing as far as her activity or diet, but in the last few days she doesn't seem to have any appetite. She'll eat like one ore two tiny bites of her puppy food and then will walk away from it and she doesn't beg for whatever I'm eating nearly as enthusiastically as she used to.
I've checked the lists of foods NOT to give a dog and the only thing on there that mentioned loss of appetite as a consequence was raw fish and I know she has not had this since I haven't bought fish ever.
I don't want to take her to the vet yet unless I know it's serious since money is a bit tight at the moment.
Her behavior, other than appetite, is perfectly normal. She poops and pees normal and has never had diarrhea and has only thrown up two or three times since I have had her (each time was right after waking up in the morning). She plays like normal, sleeps like normal, and does everything else like normal. She is an indoor dog and goes potty on a puppy pad when she feels like it and goes elsewhere when she feels like being spiteful for when I don't give her attention when she wants it
Any suggestions as to what the problem is?
I thought kidney problems at first because a friend of mine's bichon frise got some serious kidney problems from too much people food. However, her pee is still a normal color and her eyes aren't yellow (jaundice) indicating kidney failure.
Her skin and coat are healthy and shiny.
The ONLY thing that happened to her right about the time she lost her appetite (although I think her appetite was already diminished before this) was she was underneath the bed and all of the sudden she screamed reaallllllllllllllly loudly. She had apparently been chewing the electrical cord to my alarm clock. Luckily it has a power adapter to convert the 120 volt AC to 12 volts DC, which is much much safer.
She was probably more scared than anything, although it likely hurt a good bit too.
Would being shocked like this cause her to lose her appetite?
Or should I just stop feeding her treats from my plate so that she has no choice but to eat her own food.
By the way, I put a bunch of food in her bowl and she usually only ate till she was satisfied. She
might be nibbling throughout the day and I just haven't noticed it, but her food never seems to disappear.
She's not losing weight and is still growing.
She also sneaks drinks water out of the trays underneath the plants in the house.
