My puppy, 12 weeks old, is already micro chipped. He does have a small lump where the chip was placed, but I have been able to touch him there (back of neck) and he has had no issues. From what I was told they have a good chance of finding your Yorkie if it is chipped if you register their chip. Good luck!!
