Have you tried leaving them alone together for just a few minutes? That's how we started ~ just a little bit at a time.
There was a good bit of size difference though - so we probably took more time than most.
If you have ANY doubts; then I wouldn't trust them yet. They have a lifetime to be alone together ~ why rush it.
