I confess I don't understand the whole "buy a breeder not a pup" attitude. I'm buying a pup. The pup is gonna live with me every day. The pup is the one I'm responsible for for the next 15+ years (hopefully).
I have a new pup, who came to me clean, healthy & sound and received a clean bill of health from my vet. That makes me a happy new pup owner.
As long as I'm buying a puppy from someone's pet, and not a pet store or puppymill, what is the issue? What am I missing??? |
The issue is that you do not want to support a breeder who breeds for the wrong reasons. These kinds of breeders do not breed for the betterment of the breed but for the $$$$ & they do not test their breeding dogs for any kind of health or genetic issues & very often pass along horrible genetic issues in their pups to the buyer. Then later in the dogs life it is the buyer & their loved pet that pays the price for such breeding. I purchased a pup from what I was told was a reputable breeder & most people in the valley where I live that own yorkies also bought from this lady. Six yrs after I got my baby she started having some strange issues, turns out she had Chiari. I personally know others with dogs from this breeder who also have Chiari. This is why you do not want to support such breeders.
