Their Daddy has suggested a muzzle for them too but I just can't consider it seriously. When they are walking in a good heel they don't pick anything up but I don't like to make them heel for the whole walk. We've been working really hard on the 'leave it' and 'drop it' commands. These have been the hardest for them to learn but they are getting it. So far, these commands are the only thing that really has helped with this behavior. If you can teach it, that would be my best recommendation. It's funny how they learn the names for things they like in about 30 seconds (like 'bully' or 'treat') but after almost a year and half they are still learning 'drop it'. |
Sure is

I think it took Riz a half a second to link treat to a tasty nibble, lol. But he sure will get into anything...unfortunately 'drop it' goes two ways here, either he'll drop it and run to me for a treat (usually something totally harmless, and winds up being a piece of a toy) or he'll swallow it, and that's usually cat poop or cat food, or something that spilled while in transit to the garbage. It's a work in progress, but I just have to keep him on a leash outside of my yard, and am as vigilant as possible to ensure my house is constantly puppy-proof despite him being 14 months.
Try teaching drop-it, and always keep at least one eye on them all the time...or one eye per dog, so you'll be kept busy for quite some time

Good luck!
