I have one that can do that in a lap and when we were at a Yorkie Meetup and she did that, the trainer said to do exactly what you did, and put her on the floor. No guarding aloud.
Anyway, Congrats on your new one. |
yes, it seems to have nipped it in the bud! She is pretty smart, and figured out the poochie bells rather quickly too...(they are bells on the back door my dogs use to let me know they want out) She loves the fenced in back yard!
I purchased a new pet insurance plan with her as well. It's specifically geared toward adopted shelter dogs. It covers any unknowns that might appear the first year. First month was included in the adoption, then it's only 14.95 a month. I did this because the only info the shelter had on her was she was a turn-in by an elderly person who no longer could care for her. She is up to date on her shots, but will be going monday to the vet, because they don't know about her rabies expiration date. She is a little skinny, so I want to have her checked for worms as well.
The slight panic I felt when she went into guard mode, was the only doubts I had, and that was fleeting. It seems like she's always been here already.
