agreed- if there is no way for your little one to get pregnant, it may be beneficial to wait a little bit longer, my little one also had a growth spurt around 8-9 months. She got spayed a little after 10 months and was about 4 pounds.
As long as you find a vet experienced with small dogs, it shouldn't be an issue. My Chloe was spayed and had a liver biopsy at the same time and she came through just fine.
