Agreed! Love that shot. It tells you so much more about the dog seeing him playing in his own element.
I had a prime opportunity last weekend when I went to the ski resort to watch Thomas take a lesson. These were taken when he was resting up between runs. I was thinking "OK, this is it, environmental portrait!" But I don't think I quite got it. The background is so important, and I didn't know how to manage it. You have to include enough to give it a sense of place without making it distracting. Mine either don't have enough background, or what's there is distracting. I like the idea of having the snow reflected in his goggles, but you can see me in them taking the picture! There's definitely an art to it I haven't come close to mastering. Still fun trying
