Trust me, when it gets to be time, she won't follow you everywhere...she will stay with her box, and her pups afterwards. You can offer her a t-bone and she probably won't glance your way. And she will need (and want) alone time with the pups afterwards, so you will have plenty of time for your male. She will become a different dog overnight and will probably snap on your male if he goes too close for her comfort. After being attacked a couple of times, he'll wise up and leave her alone.
