I have a Cavalier King Charles who had luxating patella that was diagnosed before age 1. The vet had me watch it. After a couple of months it was obviously causing him a lot of pain so he had surgery on his left side. At the time, the vet said the other side had it, but who knew how long it would be until it was bad. He's 6 now, and hasn't needed surgery on that side yet. So there it is...my own personal study, with 50/50 odds

The surgery did go just fine, and I comforted myself by holding him approximately 23 1/2 hours per day for about the first week home.
